Evileye pufferfish

Evileye pufferfish

Evileye puffers are found in the Indo-West Pacific, mainly along continental shores from Maputo to False Bay.

They live in estuaries, seagrass beds, sandy and rocky area to depths of 400m. Juveniles are occasionally seen in tidal pools. Evileye puffers feed on crabs, isopods and other small fishes.

Like other puffers, evileye puffers are poisonous and many fishers will not even touch them. The flesh should not be eaten or fed to pets.

They grow to 19cm.
