#NOOW Not On Our Watch: A campaign to save the African penguin
On 1 March 2023, the #NotOnOurWatch campaign was launched to raise awareness of the urgent plight of the African penguin. A number of conservation organisations including WWF-SA, Endangered Wildlife Trust, SAAMBR, SANCCOB, Birdlife South Africa, African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary, Dyer Island Conservation Trust, Animal Ocean, and Nelson Mandela University support the campaign. The campaign was funded by the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, the Florida Aquarium and the Georgia Aquarium in the US, and Zoos Victoria in Australia.
Tracking Bob: Continental shelf edition
It's been 33 days since we said 'Bob-voyage' and what a voyage it has been: a full 1 883km of exploring! Bob has been exploring the edge of the continental shelf... Here's the latest update from Conservation Manager, Talitha Noble.
Tracking Bob: 41 days at sea!
This week, we are celebrating our wonderful Bob on his 41st day at sea! When we last checked in with Bob, he had started to move in a westerly direction after his fast journey south in the Agulhas current, intently staying on the inside of the continental shelf. At 200km south of Cape Agulhas, we were very curious about what Bob's next steps would be!
Welcome Kai to the I&J Ocean Exhibit
Kai is a juvenile loggerhead turtle that was rescued and arrived at our Turtle Conservation Centre as a hatchling. In the next step of rehabilitation, Kai has recently been released into the I&J Ocean Exhibit.

Turtle-y awesome road trip: the turtle team takes on Hermanus!
This year, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation embarked on the sixth annual Turtle Road Trip. From 5 to 11 March 2023, 10 dedicated staff members visited schools between Kleinmond and Gansbaai, spoke to key organisations along the coastline, and strengthened connections within the Turtle Rescue Network.
Tracking Bob: the deepest update yet!
Bob, the green turtle we released in January 2023, has officially entered the deep blue! After 2500km and 48 days of travelling along the continental shelf, Bob is entering really deep waters for the first time! This is a super exciting step for our Bob, and we're very proud to watch as he boldly swims into the real big blue!

Some of our Aquarium family may remember that Turbo, a green turtle, and Pan, a loggerhead turtle, were released last year. 2023's best Trash Bash so far!
The second Trash Bash of 2023 was a great success! On Saturday, 1 April 2023, the Two Oceans Aquarium team, with nearly 100 enthusiastic Capetonians, gathered at Mouille Point to clean up the beach (and our ocean).

From 28 April to 1 May 2023, the City of Cape Town is participating in the City Nature Challenge: an international, bioblitz-style competition where cities compete to see who can find and document the most plants and wildlife!
