Members, we want you to join us for a city nature challenge wildlife walk on 1 may 2022
Active Two Oceans Aquarium Members are invited to join our Foundation's Marine Wildlife Management team for a series of urban wildlife walks along the V&A Waterfront's canals and marinas on Sunday 1 May, to snap photos of the plants, animals and organisms you can spot and upload them to this citizen science project. The walk and snacks are free for any active Aquarium members who register in advance, but we ask that everyone who attends please be prepared to install the iNaturalist app on their phones and upload some photos (you can use Aquarium WiFi to upload).ATAP: All you need to know
Tagging is vital to marine science and conservation efforts, allowing researchers to track migration patterns, breeding sites, growth rates, and distribution. The Acoustic Tracking Array Platform (ATAP) is based at the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), an internationally renowned centre for the study of aquatic biodiversity.
Three reasons African penguins face extinction – and three ways you can help.
Happy World Penguin Day! Today, we are celebrating a penguin close to our hearts: the African penguin. This charismatic seabird is endemic to South Africa and Namibia – an iconic species and a special sighting at Boulder’s Beach and Betty’s Bay. However, their numbers are declining dramatically. Unless we do something about it, the African penguin will be functionally extinct by 2035. Thanks to the #NOOW African penguin campaign, here are three reasons the African penguin faces extinction and three ways YOU can save them.

Types of seabirds in the V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is a popular lifestyle destination for thousands of people, as well as a hive of activity for marine wildlife. The Two Oceans Aquarium is the perfect mediator between the humans and wildlife that call the Waterfront home.
Part of this ecosystem is a population of seabirds. These range from terns and cormorants to bigger species like gulls and gooses. Seabirds are a vital part of a healthy ocean ecosystem, and we love having them as a part of our skyline.
