What is the Discover Scuba Diving Experience?
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) course is our most popular course at the Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School and has been designed to provide scuba diving novices with an enjoyable and closely supervised experience. Although this is not a scuba certification course, you'll learn what it takes to be a PADI-certified diver.
Upon successful completion of a half-day PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course, you can do a single dive in the Aquarium’s I&J Ocean Exhibit on the same day!

''Thrilling and exciting"
"Embarking on my first diving adventure was a thrilling mix of anticipation and excitement. Equipped with a wetsuit and scuba gear, I descended into the underwater realm with the guidance of a seasoned instructor. Getting into the Two Ocean Aquarium’s I&J Ocean Exhibit was like embarking on a magical underwater journey. The exhibit's meticulous recreation of marine ecosystems from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans provided a mesmerizing spectacle of diverse aquatic life. Throughout the training session, the instructor displayed remarkable patience and attentiveness, catering to the individual needs and concerns of each diver. I, without a doubt, would wholeheartedly recommend diving at the Two Ocean Aquarium to anyone seeking an extraordinary underwater experience.'' - Koelsum Petersen, School Group Coordinator at the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation
"100% recommend!"
"The DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) experience was incredible! The team were so patient and accommodating, taking their time and even providing special one-on-one sessions until I felt comfortable. I don’t think you need to be an experienced or good swimmer to do the DSD. The team is with you every step of the way, from your first step in the pool to the end of your 30-minute dive in the exhibit. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to experience the underwater wonders in a safe environment."- Kaamilah Damons, Course Administrator at the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation
''Amazing experience"
The Discover Scuba Diving Experience was something that I've always wanted to do throughout my time at the Aquarium - and what an amazing experience it was! The instructors were very patient and made the experience very easy. At first, there was a mixture of excitement and nerves, having to breathe underwater and all. However, the dive master quickly went through everything step by step, and the nerves soon disappeared. Once I was in the exhibit swimming with the turtles and the fish, I enjoyed every second and did not want it to end. I highly recommend the Discover Scuba Diving experience, and I can't wait to do more Dive School courses! - Faith Tseriwa, Sales Executive at the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation
What comes after your DSD?
In addition to the Discover Scuba Diving Experience, the Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School also offers Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses, as well as refresher courses.
This is often the route many of our Discover Scuba Diving Experience participants take after they've completed their first dive. The Open Water course is particularly popular as a 'next step', as it can be completed at a discounted rate after successful completion of the DSD course.
